New Einbock seeder service

New Einbock Seeder Service:

This new machine has been a great success & farmers are very happy with results. It has very good seed accuracy and can sow up to 8 acres per hour.

Why it makes sense to sell rather than store grain

Traditionally grain was kept on farm and used, but farmers quickly became aware that it wasn’t worth the hassle, and the facilities were far from perfect, so they delivered it to their local mill where the mill had invested money in grain storage and processing.

Now we are been advised to retain the grain at home and crimp or urea treat it, so let’s look at the real figures.

The following outlines the various methods and costs associated with making 1 tonne of barley available to the ruminant animal and includes storage for 20 weeks.

Where is the saving in keeping your own grain?

The next figure offers even bigger savings!

(Grain for feed swap)- Deliver 1 tonne of barley at 20% moisture to Rath and swop for 1 tonne of  Super Bullbeef for 58euro, (may change slightly to reflect movements in feed ingredient markets.)

Grain selling options 2011

Grain Selling Options 2011.

This year we are offering our grain growers 3 options, in order to sell their grain.

1. Deliver the grain to us and wait until price settles, which will probably be September. (The traditional way)

2.Sell your grain forward for an agreed price for an agreed tonnage on a particular day.

This is based on a signed contract which cannot be broken. You are obliged to deliver the tonnage specified on the contract or penalties will apply.

3. Deliver the grain to us for storage and sell whenever you see fit up until February. (Cleaning & storage charges will apply)

It is vital to understand that grain prices change hourly in today’s world, and this means that it’s the present price that counts, not the price that was there previously.

Note: All options are available provided accounts are cleared post harvest.

Option 1. applies unless you instruct us that you want to do otherwise.

We are confident that we will be price leaders for quality grain.

Grass seeding service now available !

The Latest & Best in Grass Seed

After months of awaiting delivery, the Einbock Pneumatic seeder has arrived.

Recently purchased by J Grennan & Sons in a partnership arrangement with Aidan Walsh, of Durrow, Tullamore. Aidan is now available for hire with this machine (Mobile; 087 2540477).

Highlights of the machine!

  • Highly accurate seeding rate, can be calibrated down to within 100 grams per hectare
  • Uses pneumatic sowing box + dispersal plate, so will   disperse seeds extremely evenly over the seed bed, giving a very even seed establishment, without any of the rows you get when using other methods
  • It is 6m wide so will cover a lot of ground rapidly         (approx 8 acres per hour), which is important in broken weather.
  • Over seeding existing pastures with clover seed. Highly accurate and no need for “bulking up the seed” with 0-7-30.
  • Sowing other low seeding rate (0.5 to 3.0 kg per acre) crops eg forage crops such as Kale and Forage Rape.
  • De thatching established grass swards to encourage better tillering etc.
  • Can also be used for over seeding into existing swards without ploughing up the old sward, but this needs to be carefully done & is highly dependent on getting favourable growing conditions in the first 2 to 3 weeks after sowing. You must understand that this method can be quite risky in terms of establishment & we take NO responsibility for poor establishment
  • Grennans can now offer an entire FIRST CLASS reseeding package.  Soil testing, nutrient advice, fertiliser /lime application, top class FULLY RECOMENDED seeds, sowing service & weed control advice.

New cubing facility for Rath

You will have seen our plans to build a cubing plant at Rath, in our January newsletter. Very soon we will begin its construction. At present the construction of a grain intake for the recently built grain store is taking place. This will unfortunately cause disruption and congestion in the yard and we would appreciate your co-operation and patience. Thank you.

New cubing plant for Grennans

As part of our long-term commitment to Irish Agriculture, we have recently recognized the need to construct a feed cubing plant. We see Agriculture as one of the best sectors, with a very bright future ahead. Dairy cow numbers for the first time ever have exceeded the suckler cow herd.
